Rancho Fire Fully Contained in Laguna Beach

The Rancho Fire in Laguna Beach was fast-moving and frightening, but thanks to a strong multi-agency response, it’s now fully contained.

But for homeowners in the affected area, the questions are just beginning. What if your home smells like smoke? What if you had to evacuate and pay out of pocket? What if your insurance company tells you you’re not covered?

In this post we’ll cover:

  • What happened in Laguna Beach
  • What kind of damage counts as a “covered loss”
  • How illegal fireworks complicate claims
  • What steps to take if you were affected
  • How we help Laguna Beach homeowners get clarity and results

At Chris Faber Public Adjusters, we’ve helped thousands of California homeowners recover after wildfires, evacuations, and smoke-related damage. Even when no structures are lost, fires like this can still lead to serious financial and emotional stress—especially when insurance coverage is unclear.

Rancho Fire: What We Know

The Rancho Fire broke out Monday afternoon, July 8, 2025, near Rancho Laguna Road and Morningside Drive. Pushed by dry hillsides, it spread toward residential neighborhoods and forced evacuations in Arch Beach Heights and surrounding streets.

Thanks to quick work by Laguna Beach Fire, OCFA, CAL FIRE, and others, the fire was fully contained within 24 hours. Roughly 4.6 acres were burned. No homes were lost, and all evacuation orders have since been lifted.

Officials confirmed that a 13-year-old boy was arrested after video showed him lighting illegal fireworks in the area. The juvenile has been released to his parents pending review by the District Attorney.

This incident is a stark reminder of how quickly fire conditions can escalate, especially in hillside neighborhoods during hot summer months.

Just Because Your Home Didn’t Burn Doesn’t Mean It’s Fine

Fire-related losses aren’t always obvious. In our experience, homeowners often face uncovered or underpaid claims because insurers don’t properly account for:

  • Smoke and soot entering HVAC systems and attic spaces
  • Contaminated furniture, electronics, and textiles
  • Extra living expenses during evacuation
  • Anxiety and stress when your home doesn’t feel safe anymore

If you smelled smoke indoors, saw ash around your vents, or paid out of pocket for a hotel, your losses might be covered. But only if you document it correctly and push back when needed.

What You Can Do

We strongly recommend taking these steps now, even if everything looks okay:

  • Take clear photos of your home, both inside and out
  • Save all evacuation-related receipts (lodging, meals, pet care)
  • Note any lingering smoke odor or ash on surfaces
  • Avoid cleaning before damage can be professionally assessed

This fire may be over, but your claim isn’t.
